This is the second time Hogwarts Legacy has pushed back its planned release date, with the open-world Harry Potter game originally scheduled to launch in late 2022
Hogwarts Legacy will debut on April 4, 2023 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and on July 25, 2023 on Nintendo Switch. The team is eagerly awaiting the release of the game, and we want to provide the best gaming experience on all platforms.December 13, 2022
Don’t delay any more
Set a hundred years before the events of the books and their film adaptations, Hogwarts Legacy opens the doors of a prestigious school of magic and presents a completely original story. Harry and his friends are nowhere to be seen – they don’t even twinkle in their great-grandparents’ eyes now – so that leaves room for you, the new witch or wizard in town, to carve a name for yourself in these hallowed halls. Sure, We’re not playing quidditchbut official game trailer revealed at the State Of Play presentation earlier this year, gives us plenty to get excited about in this expansive open-world RPG that promises branching missionsforbidden curses and an intriguing puzzle to solve.
The latest last-gen delays are unfortunately nothing new because Hogwarts Legacy has already had one delay which moved its target from late 2022 to early 2023. Where current-gen console and PC players will get 72 hours of early access after purchasing the game’s Deluxe Edition, the same is not true for previous-gen users. Whether you bought the Standard or Deluxe Edition, you’ll get access on April 4. This is in line with Hogwarts Legacy FAQ page (opens in a new tab).
If you were planning on playing on your Switch, you’ll have to wait patiently for a brutal five extra months for the acceptance letter to arrive in July 2023. But hey, what’s a few more months when you’ve already waited 25 years?
The delay is likely to disappoint some Harry Potter fans, as by pushing the release date back only for part of the community, there’s an increased risk of previous-gen players having their experience spoiled by their current-gen peers. Moreover, since you can always cancel your pre-order, there may be times when dissatisfied fans express their displeasure using their wallets – especially if there’s no longer a crucial reason to spend the extra money on the Deluxe Edition.
